How does she do it?

How Does She Do It? Business Insight from Paige

I felt we should kick off 2023 by letting our followers in on a little insight on how I continue to learn & grow into a CEO to create a sustainable business while building a team that also believes in my mission.

Every year in January I see, hear & read inspiration that is suppose to help us all get in the mindset of setting goals for the new year, however I started planning & setting business goals for 2023 in September of 2022…

What does PWID annual planning look like?

Ellevated Outcomes prep packets = homework for each team member to rate & reflect on business processes, clients we want to work with & employee atmosphere.

1 intense full day of planning with Julie Sellers, CEO of Ellevated Outcomes, to help us review our deepest insights and goals.

(Yes we deserved champagne that day!)

1 CEO retreat trip to absorb & select the goals to put into place for the PWID team.

2022 trip destination was Miami

A final CEO planning day after 3 weeks of intense reflection & goal setting (while also running the day to day of a demanding design business)

And if all that was not enough…

I enrolled in Ellevated Outcomes, Small Business MBA course: Simplify Your Business that supplied me with a fresh perspective, an opportunity to zoom out and assess my business, and tools to get really clear on where I want and need to go.

However the “CEO / I” quickly turned into a “We” taking this course as a design team learning that in order to be sustainable as a small business we must excel in quality of product, service, and customer experience and I can’t do it alone.

So, to answer the title of this blog post, “How does she do it”,

I keep living my mission from the very first annual planning day with Ellevated Outcomes in 2018:

“She shines bright in her business and her life. She lives in color, with passion” and by ADDING: “She surrounds herself with a team that shares that very same passion”

This year Ellevated Outcomes is offering a wealth of education around CEO systems & materials for creative business owners and how they use them in their own business.

If you’re interested to know more, you can sign up HERE for their weekly letters, access to a monthly masterclass (January and February are on conducting Annual Planning and using a CEO Scorecard), and be notified of their CEO Mindset video series release.

Let’s Talk About Our Mission

In March 2022, we are in the middle of a 75% remodel of a client’s newly purchased farm house when we get the call that their 15 year old son had been diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia MPAL (Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia) and was being admitted to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s hospital at Vanderbilt.

We want to tell our version of this story as a small part of Jake’s life and as a trusted team for “Wilson Warriors” to his family that is a part of the PWID family. We are so honored to be trusted & live out our mission to its fullest. We mean what we say when it comes to changing the way our clients live in their homes & how they live their daily lives. We hold our family close when LIFE happens. How special it is that they can reach out asking for our expertise in times when it matters the most.

Our clients asked us to focus all of our attention on creating a suite for Jake to heal & quarantine for several weeks. He had to come home in the middle of the chaotic state of construction that the rest of their house was in.

This was an “HGTV Moment” with 2 weeks to come up with a design plan, source local shops, and pull together installers to make it all happen.

We called in extra muscle!

Bryce Steyer, owner of Boulder Homes & Justin Tinker of Watson Flooring completed an on-suite bathroom remodel. We pulled together a design plan for Jake to be surrounded by his favorite things – Georgia football & Acuna Jr. with the Atlanta Braves, cards from his school friends & gifts of encouragement, rap music + his hat & shoe collection.

In May, we celebrated with Jake about news, in the “Wilson Warrior Suite” at the Nashville Sounds game, that his sister was a 100% bone marrow treatment match & helped to raise awareness for bone marrow donors.

On October 23rd, hundreds gathered at the Nashville Sounds Game to celebrate Jake’s life after he fought a hard battle with grace & determination.

We have been working the past 3 weeks helping provide our grieving client family a 2nd “HGTV moment” in conjunction with Bryce and our subs to wrap up construction for each area of their home to come back to a calm, clean space to grieve together and prep for Jake’s Celebration of life.

Again, this is our side of the story & a testament to how we truly do love what we do and the trust that was placed on our team with confidence to create a well designed space for this family was not taken lightly.

What is #HPMKT & Why Are We So Excited?

Happy fall! It’s our favorite time of year because of… Designer Disneyworld AKA Highpoint! The PWID design team is going back to High Point Furniture Market again this year & we could not be more excited.

We have worked hard to make this trip happen again. Yes, it serves our creative brains but also helps elevate our education with what’s currently on the market & enables us to create more value for each client project.

But wait, what exactly is #HPMKT?

Here are our favorite highlights from last year at Highpoint! Imagine a day at Disney and all the things you want to accomplish & see…

  • Each day, our Designer Backpacks are loaded with most unexpected things: Goodies from every showroom including tape measures, pens, pencils, notebooks, and of course champagne & cookies.

  • We love seeing, sitting in and touching furniture we have selected for client projects in person, it brings us so much joy.

  • Seeing beautiful lighting in person & installed in all the showrooms helps us make better selections per project for the best custom look.

This year we are excited to learn about:

  • New items on the market & innovations in furniture that is made in the USA, mostly exactly where we are going to be, Highpoint NC

  • Learning how our trusted brands have adapted their methods & business structure with the still remaining major back log our industry is feeling from 2020.

We can’t wait to share our experiences this year with you! Follow along in our Insta stories the last week of October to see our creative journey & what we will be bringing back with us.
