The Convergence of Mid-Century and Modern

We love a trend (speaking of, see our predictions for 2025!), especially when one once popular rears its head years later. Mid-century modern interiors are inspired by the mid-20th century, so think back to those living rooms you saw on your favorite sitcoms. The style is marked by lots of natural materials, clean lines, bold pops of color, and functionality. So, needless to say, we love it.

We were recently privileged to work on an entire mid-century modern-inspired renovation in Nashville. We’ve already shared details on our stunning kitchen makeover, and now we’re taking things into the bedroom.

Go behind the scenes with us to see how we put the modern in this mid-century masterpiece.

Old vs. New

One trend we’re happy to see move on is white-washing or obscuring natural wood. Don’t get us wrong, we understand how these elements can make a space feel dated, but we’re here to remind you that a little careful sprucing can go a long way without slapping paint on top of your home’s character.

This particular remodel had lots of bold cherry wood original to the home, and through thoughtful design, we were able to honor the original wood and make it a 2025-approved focal point of the space. We accented it with moody purple paint (reminder why we love this for bedrooms), a neutral accent wall, and custom drapery that tied it all together.

Mid-Century Modern Touches

Preserving the natural wood couldn’t be the only mid-century modern element we incorporated. We kept the theme woven seamlessly throughout with things like geometric print on the custom drapes, a funky bedside sconce with an exposed bulb, a neutral yet textured wallpaper adding intrigue, and a bed frame with lots of clean lines.

The theme continued as we turned to knicknacks. We used simple rectangle decorative boxes for storage, a simple circular mirror above the dresser, and incorporated gold metal accents throughout.

Automation

Now, there’s nothing mid-century and everything modern about this next part. We cited automation as a big design trend we’ve been seeing in recent years, but one thing that’s often overlooked is the amount of careful planning required to pull it off well. For this build, we wanted the curtains and drapes to be able to open and close with only the touch of a button. Working with a designer ensures the goal of automation is present every step of the way: from selecting the fabric through sourcing the technology, concealing any mechanisms, a seamless install, and a functional mechanism.

Whether you’re a lover of all things mid-century, a modern maven, or a little bit of both, we’re here to help you achieve all your goals. Get in touch

Paige’s 2025 Design Trend Predictions

A new year always ushers in a new wave of trends — in fashion, in behavior, and, of course, in design. Over the years we’ve watched trends in home design evolve from all-white everything to bold pops of color, from ultra-modern to warm and cozy. As designers, it’s our job to stay on top of these trends, differentiating what’s “right” from what’s “right now,” then blending it all with the individual design preferences of each of our clients.

We’re thrilled to see that the direction home design is heading this year matches much of our own personal style. From leveled-up lighting to a touch of nature, these are four design trends we’re predicting to see this year.

Color is Back

If you know us at all, you know how exciting this is. We’re notorious for our use of color in design, whether that’s an all-pink salon, a moody bedroom with careful color choices that set a certain mood, or nature-focused browns and greens creating a seamless transition between indoor and out.

Color can bring warmth, intrigue, and plenty of personality into a home, and there are several ways to do it. If going all-in on painting your walls and ceiling a bold hue isn’t for you, consider adding pops of color through accent furniture, eye-catching decor, or even fabrics.

Lights, Camera, Action

Lighting can impact the ambiance of a space more than any other design choice you make. Something too bright can feel industrial or institutional quickly, but lights too dim are less than functional. We’ve always paid close attention to our lighting selections, but where the trend used to be recessed or hidden lighting, we now get to make it part of the fun.

We’re seeing lots of fixtures using textured materials, trimmed with things like tassels, grasscloth, and sea glass, or made with a mix of elegant metals and finished wood. We’re thrilled to see this trend emerge – because pretty lights are absolutely able to put the fun in functional

Natural Materials

We’ve been highlighting this since our first visit to Jackson Hole–natural materials are a stunning incorporation into design. Wood is an obvious, with it making a well-deserved return in cabinetry, on ceilings, or even in lighting as we mentioned before.

In Jackson Hole, architecture and design plays seamlessly with their stunning surroundings. We love seeing wood take center stage, mixed perfectly with stone, natural metals, and other earthy enhancements.

Smart-Home Technology

Having a home filled with gadgets and automation isn’t a novel idea in 2025, but it’s a trend that certainly isn’t going away. From smart garage door openers to sophisticated security systems all the way down to shades that open and close with the push of a button, it’s equal parts functional and impressive when you have a home that just gets you.

But one trend we’re hoping to incorporate this year is using designers to achieve your smart home goals. In order to make all parts work together seamlessly, it takes careful attention to detail and plenty of advanced planning. We recently spearheaded a smart shade and curtain system in a primary bedroom, and it took five experts working together to get it right.

We’re always here to help clients incorporate trends into their homes, all while lending our industry expertise to be sure it’s done well. From automated everything to bringing earthy touches indoors, let’s chat about your big dreams this year.

Paige Williams Interior Design’s 2024 Wrapped

What. A. Year. We’ve said it before, but with so many celebrations and milestones reached, we’re feeling extra grateful as we reflect on the past year. We continued serving clients not only in Middle Tennessee, but country-wide, we launched our own designer-inspired brand, we served as thought leaders in the industry, and we toasted to TEN years in business.

Take a trip down memory lane as we remember a milestone year indeed. Here’s our 2024 PWID Wrapped.

28 Projects

In 2024 alone, our stellar team of designers completed a whopping 28 total projects. This included 10 bathroom renovations, five new kitchens, four bonus rooms with bars, four new builds, three entryways, three condos, two each of furniture space planning, bedrooms, living rooms, new home construction, whole-home remodels, a beach house, lake house, retail store, powder room, butler pantry, guest bedroom, laundry room, and even a custom set of dining room chairs.

We mean it when we say, “You name it, we can do it.”

15 Locations

While Middle Tennessee is our bread and butter, reflected in 2024 redesigns in Downtown Nashville, West Nashville, Brentwood, Franklin, Mt. Juliet, Green Hills, Winchester, Murfreesboro, Cane Ridge, Centerville, and Berry Hill, we took our expertise beyond our hometowns. This year, we supported clients in places like New Jersey, Rosemary Beach, Utah, and Virginia.

10 Years in Business

We’ve spent a whole decade helping friends, family, and clients that felt like both transform their houses into dream homes. We celebrated by gathering with loved ones at the Nashville Design Collective for a morning of coffees, mimosas, and charcuterie, all while both reminiscing on the past and looking with excitement toward the future. THANK YOU for helping us get here.

Three’s a Party

Good things came in threes this year, as our team of *three* brought home three awards for excellence in design: nationally, we were a Best of Houzz winner for design, and we landed in the top *three* for designers in both Nashville and Franklin (Best of Nashville and the Sizzle Awards, respectively).

In addition to these exciting accolades, we also celebrated *three* national media placements. We talked paint colors with Apartment Therapy, trending patterns with Southern Living, and fall decorating tips with The Spruce. While we’re on the topic, we were also thrilled to be featured with a stunning print spread in Nashville Interiors.

And Speaking of Parties…

One of the biggest feats we accomplished in 2024: launching our own product line! You can read all about the “why” here, but Paige’s Pillow Party was born from Paige’s lifelong love of beautiful fabrics and striking prints. After accumulating samples, favorites, and upcycling from client projects over the years, these pillows are a high-quality and durable reimagination of her favorites.

We’re looking forward to another great year in 2025, and we’d love to be a resource for you. Reach out to get on our books.

Check Out These Nashville-Made Products

One of the biggest challenges we as designers face isn’t the extreme attention to detail, the measuring and then measuring again, the thoughtful touches unique to each client, or even managing a full suite of vendors and contractors: it’s the frustrations that come along with supply chain delays.

These days, ordering the perfect piece of high-quality furniture for a renovation often comes along with a hefty wait time – sometimes spanning six or more months for delivery. That’s why, whenever we can, we partner with local vendors who can custom-make products perfectly suited for our client's homes.

This sparked a homegrown partnership between our pillow collection, Paige’s Pillow Party, and local woodworker Kelly Maxwell of Littlebranch Farm. Read on for more info.

Nashville-Built Chairs

Littlebranch Farm has grown to become a beloved brand country-wide, but it’s Middle Tennessee through and through. The furnituremakers are based in town and have a showroom in Nashville, but have been recognized for their work far beyond (and for good reason). Last year, they took home Best in Show at the Western Design Conference in Jackson Hole, where the partnership with Pillow Party debuted (more on that later).

These custom dining chairs are made from hardwood right here in town, so instead of ordering from a far away vendor and waiting eons for arrival, Kelly and his team whip up the frames and get them to Paige to add her flair.

Franklin-Finished Cushions

If there’s one thing you need to know about Paige, it’s that she’s all about the fabrics. She hand-picks every pattern for every project, so these custom dining chairs are not only retrofitted for each space, they’re also finished in a fabric perfectly suited for each redesign. This makes them all the more high-quality and durable, which is an important consideration for something in use daily.

During the Western Design Conference, Paige launched a custom line of Pillow Party products inspired by Jackson Hole. These were on display alongside the PWID x Littlebranch Farm chairs serving as inspiration for designers and interior aficionados attending the show from all over.

Giving Your Guests a Seat at the Table

‘Tis the season for hosting, and while we’ve shared a few tips to get your house party-ready, chairs are always a necessary consideration. Paige often hears clients comment on the importance of comfortable chairs… because when your guests are comfortable, they’re more inclined to sit down and stay a while.

If you’re looking to spruce up your dining room, let’s connect about ways we can elevate your space using quality local products.

Meet the Team: Reflecting On a Milestone Year

The past year has been good to us. Professionally, we celebrated a decade in business, worked with clients around the region to create their dream homes, and collected a few awards and recognitions along the way. But personally, it’s also been one of tremendous growth, adventure, and perseverance.

I’m so incredibly proud of my team for constantly bringing fresh ideas to the table and excelling in all they do. Check out their adventures from this year and how they influenced their personal design styles.

Mattie

Mattie’s favorite travel memory from the past year was a family getaway to Tybee Island and Savannah. There, they stayed in an older beach house that was owned by a famous author, which had a funky and eclectic style Mattie loved. This influenced her overall design vibe for the year – meshing eclectic/mod style with updated, traditional twists.

The “Feminine Flower” pillow from Paige’s Pillow Party sums up the Georgia coast perfectly. The coastal colors and floral print would fit in perfectly with the design of the home she rented. While more out-of-the-box style was a driver for 2024, Mattie is hoping to embrace traditional design in the new year.

Brittany

Our resident jet-setter, Brittany, enjoyed a fall trip to Portugal that inspired her design aesthetic this year. Her biggest takeaway was the use of tile seemingly everywhere – lots of blues, interesting motifs, and unique applications were at the forefront, primarily at the National Palace of Sintra.

In addition to tile, Brittany drew inspiration from the use of ceramics (specifically, swallows) that hung on walls and symbolized good fortune. She loves decorating and designing with elements that have special meaning – her favorite pieces in her own home are often curated from travel and spark a memory. When working with clients, she makes sure to prioritize choices that reflect their personal stories and essence, too.

Brittany loves projects centered around the color blue. The “Expert ‘Blue’ Opinion” pillow nods to the colors found across Portugal, and embodies the style she’s eager to bring into 2025.

Paige

The Western Design Conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, was Paige’s favorite adventure this year. It’s no wonder the art, textiles, and natural colors served as inspiration for her 2024 design style – that was the goal of the trip! Paige was most inspired by watching the sunrise at Teton National Park, watching the rays bounce off the trees and lake as the day broke. Back in town, Paige also drew influence from the modern architecture, clean lines, and natural materials incorporated into the buildings. There were many mixtures of wood, metal, and glass, that creates dimension and intrigue everywhere you turn.

She incorporated this dimension into this year’s design projects, pushing traditional style to the next level by adding intriguing elements. Thinking about “Western design” might spark a certain stereotypical style, but it goes beyond leathers and hides, often incorporating touches of nature, luxurious textures, and modern lines.

Paige debuted her Pillow Party collection during the conference, but the “Sunrise Landscape” print most reflected her experience in Jackson Hole. These pillows are both beautiful and durable, which plays into one of Paige’s passions she’ll bring with her into the new year: creating durable, functional spaces using high-quality and long-lasting items.

We’re excitedly looking ahead to all the good things and beautiful designs to come in 2025. Get on our list today!
