Remember that stunning nursery we just revealed? Well, every bedroom needs a bathroom, and we’re just as proud of the one we whipped up for the nursery. The Jack-and-Jill style meant it also connected to a neighboring guest room, so it was important to us to ensure the bathroom blended a charming nursery style with neutral enough details that guests wouldn’t feel like they were in a baby's bathroom.
Here’s how we pulled it off, plus some practical tips if you’re facing your own bathroom reno.
Paint over Wallpaper
We knew we wanted green and white stripes in the bathroom, but when we were sourcing wallpaper, we kept reminding ourselves: bathrooms are humid, kids' bathrooms are even more so. If we used paper-backed wallpaper, we would’ve needed a larger backsplash that didn’t make sense in the space.
The solution? Paint the stripes. This resulted in an on-trend wallpaper look for a reduced cost and greater longevity.
Intentional Surfaces
We added a countertop to the vanity, but we still kept in mind the notion that this would one day be a bathroom for a toddler, a kid, possibly a teen. We selected a quartz countertop that’s made to look like marble, which gave an elegant and timeless look while remaining durable. Quartz is nonporous, so it’s nearly impossible to stain.
We added gold fixtures throughout the bathroom that nod to the nursery details – a brass crib, gold picture frames. The focal point is the scalloped wood mirrors that hang above the vanity and bring a youthful feeling to the space.
The Details
The light fixture in the room’s center is a Capiz shell light fixture that we adore. We continued that youthful, baby girl feeling in a way that’s easily changeable by adding accents like waffle-print towels, wicker baskets, a wooden tub shelf, and bows to hold the shower curtain.
The overarching goal with this space was functionality: our clients didn’t want to sacrifice that perfectly adorable baby girl bathroom for their first child, but they also knew the space would be used by her as she grew, plus guests and possibly a sibling.
By designing with gender-neutral colors, on-trend yet timeless details, and changeable little touches like towels and shower curtains, we were thrilled at how the space came together.
Do you have a space you want to grow with your family? We’d love to help.
